Staghorn Sculpin

Leptocottus armatus


Staghorn sculpins are found between the Gulf of Alaska and Central Baja California. They can grow up to about 18". They generally live on the bottom of bays or estuaries, and when threatened, they will raise the horns on either side of their head.
How to Identify: Staghorn Sculpins are easily identified by the horns on either side of their head. They have long bodies with flat bottoms, and also have two large pectoral fins. Staghorns also have no scales.
