Join MSI naturalists for stories, live ocean animals & amazing artifacts from the seas. This FREE event is held on the third Saturday of every month at the Redwood City Library's Main Branch ~ 1044 Middlefield Road in downtown Redwood City. January 16th we'll bring the tidepools to you with hermit crabs, snails & more from the Rocky Shore. February 20th we'll tell you all about molluscs, with stories and live examples of our shelled marine friends. On March 20th, we'll appear with our favorite friendly SF Bay neighbor, the Leopard Shark, and discuss all things cartilaginous. As always, no registration required, just show up! Note: there will be no Seaside Story Hour in April, but come on down to MSI's Earth Day on the Bay!

Afternoon Ecology ~ Winter Session    Thursdays, 3:30pm ~ 5pm      Jan 21st through Feb 25th
Afternoon Ecology is a program designed for learners who are curious about habitats in the San Francisco Bay. In our Winter Session, students will explore the many salt water ecosystems that are found in their neighborhood. Each day, students will get hands-on in the field of Marine Biology. Students will use real scientific equipment, write in a journal, touch animals, and work as part of a team. The course will uncover different ecosystems each day, starting out in the open Pacific Ocean and will move into the San Francisco Bay. The cost for six 1.5 hour classes is $100 per student. Space is limited, so click here to sign up now!

Aquarium Spotlight Days     Saturday, January 23rd      2pm ~ 4:30pm
For 40 years, MSI has been teaching people about the amazing marine life in San Francisco Bay and world's oceans. We have taught well over half a million people with our hands-on, marine science programs. However, we have focused on serving school groups, and realize there is a larger interest out there in the amazing diversity of marine life near our shores. Spotlight Days are an opportunity for you to come visit MSI with your family or friends and join in on the fun. Docents will be on hand to help you learn more about what you're seeing (and touching) in our classrooms and aquarium. Plus, we are taking advantage of this event to officially launch the celebrations of our 40th anniversary! Cost is free, but space is limited - online registration required.

Plankton Day!     Saturday, March 13th      1:30pm ~ 4pm

Celebrate the first day of Spring while learning about those little creatures that use the returning sunlight to make our ocean environments tick. It's the plankton. We'll catch plankton with you from our dock, and take a closer look on our 10' screen in the Marine Science Center at these amazing creatures. Better than science fiction, we'll learn how these plants and animals survive and build the basis of the whole food web.
