Summer Adventure Awaits
We are ready for another exciting season of discovery! At Marine Science Camp, young biologists explore their link to the ocean during an action-packed week of fun and adventure.
With hands-on science and interactive activities, Marine Science Camp provides children ages 5-17 a memorable and meaningful summer at the shore of (and on!) the San Francisco Bay. All campers spend time outdoors at our shoreside facility searching for animals under the docks and in the mud, playing marine science-themed games on our giant lawn, and observing birds flying overhead and across the channel at Bair Island. They also spend a day aboard our 90-foot research vessel working together to catch fish, collect mud from the bottom of the Bay and touch animals found right in our Bay backyard! Using scientific equipment, campers observe all of the amazing life found in the Bay and learn how we are connected to local habitats.
Along with experiencing the marine life in the Bay and at our facility, Explorer and Naturalist campers will also venture to field trip locations around the Bay Area. This summer, depending on the camp, they will visit two of the following places: Bean Hollow State Beach, Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve, the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. No matter which session summer campers attend, they will delve into the fascinating features that make the San Francisco Bay Area one of the most biologically diverse regions in California. Through tide pooling, traversing a local marsh, touring a 130-year-old ship and performing various animal surveys along the coast, campers will surely gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the incredible life in our estuary and along the coast.
Marine Science Camp is a place where children make new friends, learn new skills, have new experiences, develop a deeper curiosity of the natural world and have fun all the while!
