Summer is the time to explore and enjoy the outdoors!

Marine Science Camp for K-8th grades is a wonderful way for children to excite their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning about, and caring for, the environment. Whether they are getting introduced to marine science, or are diving into a subject that they are already passionate about, campers are inspired by interactions with live animals and taking part in science in action. This summer program engages budding biologists with creative, active and hands-on projects that keep their bodies and minds active. Lead by our experienced science instructors, campers discover local habitats and animals at our Redwood City site and while aboard our research vessel, the Robert G. Brownlee. Make science come alive this summer!

Please read the Summer Marine Science Camp FAQs for important information such as modifications for COVID-19, what to expect at camp, and much more.

Apply for financial support via the Marine Science Camp Scholarship Fund.

The 2020 Underwater Investigators camp theme is Adaptation. Through the course of the week, campers will explore the physical and behavioral adaptations of marine animals and their adaptations to changing ocean conditions. Hands-on activities include live animal investigations, science experiments, dissections and much more. Through direct exposure and investigations, campers will expand their appreciation of marine habitats, explore human activities and their impact on the environment, and dive into solutions for local and global conservation issues.

Their week-long information gathering by land, boat and canoe will culminate in an activity aboard the R/V Robert G. Brownlee in which campers will work in groups to create and present their own conservation campaign. This action-packed camp includes two days of hands-on activities at MSI, one day canoeing through the local slough, and two days aboard our research vessel with a fun filled sleep-over on the boat at our overnight location.
