Marine Camp Director
Job Announcement

Office | 40 hours per week

The Marine Science Institute (MSI) is a nonprofit science and environmental education organization dedicated to inspiring curiosity and stewardship through hands-on marine science experiences. Located on the San Francisco Bay in Redwood City, California, MSI serves thousands of students each year through field trips, camps, EcoVoyages, and public programs.

We are seeking a Marine Camp Director to lead our popular summer and intersession camp programs. This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of Programs and is ideal for an organized, collaborative leader who is passionate about environmental education and creating exceptional experiences for children.

 

Position Status: Full-time
Location: Redwood City, CA

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for all aspects of intersession and summer camp, including but not limited to:

  • Responsible for curriculum development and the continuous improvement of marine science camp programming

  • Recruit, hire, train, and co-manage all Marine Science Camp staff

  • Coordinate and schedule Marine Science Camp and Intersession Camp sessions, field trips, and transportation

  • Manage camp enrollment strategy and registration systems (CRM), monitor enrollment trends and working toward enrollment goals

  • Maintain and Administer the scholarship program and inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment

  • Ensure effective communication with camper’s parents and guardians, including pre-camp outreach, camp updates, issues resolution and maintain the procedural handbook

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Foster a positive and supportive environment for Camp Instructors, Counselors, Interns, and Volunteers

  • Update and maintain relevant camp-related webpages

  • Monitor budget performance, manage photo sales, and teach MSI programs as needed

  • Support curriculum development and continuous improvement of marine science camp programming

  • Ensure a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for all campers

 

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of a BA or BS in Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Outdoor Education, Recreation Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Experience in outdoor or environmental education and staff supervision

  • Experience supervising, coaching, and supporting staff

  • Strong computer skills, with familiarity in Office Suite and CRM software

  • Understanding of child/adolescent development and positive behavior management practices

  • Meticulous organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking and writing

  • Experience with budget management, marketing, and administrative tasks

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification upon hiring

 

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: Starting at $77,000 , depending on qualifications and experience.
