Marine Biology Course

Expanding curriculum at the High School Home School Level

The a-g Marine Science course combines labs, hands-on lessons, live animal touching, field trips, bookwork and homework to create an integrated and engaging learning opportunity.

Textbook and lab manual are required:  ISBN 13: 9780076929092  Castro, Marine Science, 2019, 2e, Premium Print Bundle (Student Edition with Lab Manual, Online Student Edition) 1-year subscription.

Students interact with and learn about the animals that live in the San Francisco Bay Estuary and local Pacific Ocean habitats. They have the opportunity to use professional grade scientific equipment and handle live animals. Students will work on a final project all semester. There will be weekly homework assignments. Students will have a field trip to Stulsaft Park in Week 4

 

There is an optional on-the-water 2-hour field trip aboard the R/V Robert G. Brownlee at the end of the semester. This requires separate registration. Family members who are 5+ years old can also join (separate registration required). More information to come.

  • Week 4: Creek Study Field trip (Stulsaft Park)

  • Week 5: Unit 2 Waves, Tides, and Atmospheric Circulation

  • Week 6: Unit 3 Organisms of the Sea

  • Week 7: Unit 3 Organisms of the Sea

  • Week 8 Unit 4 Marine Animals

  • Week 9: Unit 4 Marine Animals

  • Week 10: Ocean Lab
