cancellation policies

Air Quality policy for all MSI programs: If the local AQI value is between 0-100 PM2.5 (in the green or yellow zone) on the day-of program, then the program activities will occur as planned. If the AQI value is between 101-200 PM2.5 (orange or red zone), then we will modify activities in response to the reduced air quality and move them to indoor spaces with an air filter. If the AQI value is greater than 201 PM2.5 (purple or maroon zone) then the program will be cancelled for the day and you will be notified immediately.

Force Majeure: If the Marine Science Institute facilities are rendered unsuitable for the operation of Marine Science Institute programs by reason of Force Majeure such as natural events (fire, earthquake, flooding, etc.), political events (war, strike, massive protests, etc.), governmental action (pandemic response, etc.), or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Marine Science Institute, then a credit transfer to a future program will be issued. Date effective April 14, 2022

ACTIVE registration system: processing fees are nonrefundable at any time. 

School and Group Programs/Field Trips

As of January 1st, 2022, we will be implementing a rescheduling fee for any program changes after invoice creation. This includes any modifications to time or date of program. These fees will be used to offset staff time spent in scheduling and paying for staff hours for last minute changes. The fees will be as follows:

  • $50/program – if reschedule request is made between 15 days and 48 hours before program

  • $25/program – if reschedule request is made between 30 days and 16 days before program

  • Full program balance due plus any fees for any changes, cancellations, or no-shows within 48 hours of program

  • No charge if request is made more than 30 days before event

  • Reschedules limited to 2 times per school year.

  • Rescheduled programs must take place within 3 months of the original program date, or before the end of the school year (whichever date is sooner). Rescheduling fees must be paid upon confirmation of program change. Programs fall under the cancellation policy if the conditions above are not met.

  • Cancellation policy (as listed on invoices): The balance owed to MSI must be received on or by 15 days prior to your Program.                                                    

  • Credit card information is due upon booking. If the card provided is to hold your booking, then you will need to provide proof of payment process with your school (e.g. purchase order). Credit cards on file will be run if alternate payment isn’t provided within 30 days for the deposit and 15 days for remainder of program cost.    

  • Cancellation policy covers program cancellations due to Covid-19                                                      

Online programs:

  • No refunds for cancellations made at any time. If you or your students are unable to attend the program, MSI will assess on an individual basis.

 

In-Person programs:

  • If you cancel less than 30 days before your program date, you forfeit your deposit.

  • If you cancel less than 15 days before your program date, the entire cost of the program is due immediately.

 

Sponsorships:

  • All prices have built-in sponsorship to make our programs affordable.

  • Additional sponsorship may be available for schools that need it.

  • All classes will be required to acknowledge program sponsors to demonstrate appreciation and encourage continued support.

Afternoon Ecology

  • No refunds for cancellations made within two weeks of the program start date. If If a medical issue arises and your child is unable to attend the program, MSI will reassess on an individual basis.

  • MSI will fully refund tuition if the session is cancelled*.

  • *If the Marine Science Institute facilities are rendered unsuitable for the operation of Marine Science Institute programs by reason of Force Majeure such as natural events (fire, earthquake, flooding, etc.), political events (war, strike, massive protests, etc.), governmental action (pandemic response, etc.), or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Marine Science Institute, then a credit transfer to a future program will be issued. Date effective April 14, 2022.

  • ACTIVE registration system: processing fees are nonrefundable at any time. 

Advanced Ecology

  • 30% nonrefundable deposit for cancellations made more than 2 weeks before the start of the program.

  • $25 to transfer credit to account prior to 2 weeks.

  • No refunds or transfers for cancellations made within 2 weeks of the program start date.

  • If a medical issue arises and your child is unable to attend the program, MSI will assess on an individual basis.

  • MSI will fully refund tuition if the session is cancelled*.

  • *If the Marine Science Institute facilities are rendered unsuitable for the operation of Marine Science Institute programs by reason of Force Majeure such as natural events (fire, earthquake, flooding, etc.), political events (war, strike, massive protests, etc.), governmental action (pandemic response, etc.), or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Marine Science Institute, then a credit transfer to a future program will be issued. Date effective April 14, 2022.

Public Events

  • No refunds for cancellations made within two weeks of the program start date.

  • Should MSI cancel an event for any reason you will be notified via the contact information provided through registration and be issued a full refund*.

  • Please note our events still take place rain or shine including our Discovery Voyages unless deemed a safety issue by the ship's Captain.

  • *If the Marine Science Institute facilities are rendered unsuitable for the operation of Marine Science Institute programs by reason of Force Majeure such as natural events (fire, earthquake, flooding, etc.), political events (war, strike, massive protests, etc.), governmental action (pandemic response, etc.), or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Marine Science Institute, then a credit transfer to a future program will be issued. Date effective April 14, 2022.

  • ACTIVE registration system: processing fees are nonrefundable at any time. 

Summer Camp

  • 90% of total tuition is refundable for cancellations through March 31. The 25% deposit is non-refundable from April 1 until two weeks prior to camp session start date; the remainder of tuition (75%) is refundable. Cancellations within two weeks of your camp start date are 100% non-refundable. The processing fee is non-refundable for cancellations made at any time. Scholarship donations are non-refundable. MSI will fully refund fees if the session is cancelled*.

  • *If the Marine Science Institute facilities are rendered unsuitable for the operation of Marine Science Institute programs by reason of Force Majeure such as natural events (fire, earthquake, flooding, etc.), political events (war, strike, massive protests, etc.), governmental action (pandemic response, etc.), or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Marine Science Institute, then a credit transfer to a future program will be issued.

  • Transfers: A $25 transfer fee is applied to camp session transfers within the same season (for each child).

  • ACTIVE registration system: processing fees are nonrefundable at any time. 

Intersession Camps

  • For cancellations requested more than 60 days prior to camp start date, 85% of program fees are refundable. For cancellations requested between 60 days and 14 days prior to camp start date, 70% of program fees are refundable. No refunds for cancellations requested within 14 days of the camp start date. If your child gets sick before or during program MSI will assess on an individual basis. MSI will fully refund fees if the session is cancelled*.
