Marine Scinece Institute (MSI) is a committed community partner with the San Mateo Environmental Learning Collaborative (SMELC), and we are very excited to participate in another amazing year of learning with this fellowship! SMELC is a professional, environmental learning collaborative for K-8 teachers focused on combining project based learning & local environment to support teachers in meeting Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
MSI participates in the SMELC Summer Institute, a four-day learning intensive, by offering support and guidance to teachers as they build knowledge and skills to design and implement their unit of study for the fall and winter. At the workshop, teachers will interact with local phenomena from the tide pools and learn ways to engage students and ready them to dive deeper with their exploration and inquiry. As a local environmental education provider, we are thrilled to partner with teachers, working together to increase environmental literacy within our communities.
